Goals based in peace

My short term goal based in peace is to try to help someone every day. Something simple like opening the door, or pick up something, or maybe just smiling to everyone passing by can change that person’s day.
My long term goal based in peace is to help someone that really needs it. Like sharing my home with a friend in need, or paying my niece’s birth. I will like to give whatever a friend may need without getting something in exchange for it.

Inner Peace

Inner peace is something that we all find at some point in our lives. For me inner peace is just feeling comfortable with who I am and with what I do every day. Another thing that gives me inner peace is to know that I am doing something great for myself by studying a career. Inner peace is as simple as feeling happy with what is happening in your life. Inner peace is whatever you enjoy doing and the joy you get out of it by doing it.

Will we ever achieve peace?

Peace is something that we all want to achieve in our lives. But does peace really exist? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary (2011) peace is “A state of tranquility or quiet” and “freedom from civil disturbance”. Basically peace is when we find ourselves happy with what we are and where we are in life. We can also achieve peace when we feel free of problems or troubles that can affect us emotionally. There are some people that are not interested in achieving peace for themselves or disrupt others peace. These people can be terrorist, gang members, bullies, people that discriminate, or just a person making rumors.

There are various elements that people do to make peace disappear from a person’s life. The number one element that prevents peace locally is the difference between people’s mentality. Another factor that prevents peace locally is the lack of respect and tolerance towards people from other communities or religion. We often reject people who are, look, or speak differently from us. Our society is not used to accept radical changes or opinions; when a radical change does happen it ends in a revolt or even a war. War is mostly the number one cause that is taking peace away from many Americans. Also, war is the number one element that prevents peace nationally. Right now we are engaged in various wars, one of them being in Iraq. It is expected from experts, from NBC news (2011), to get terrorist attacks in the whole country since American soldiers killed Osama Bin Laden; he is a terrorist that was blamed for the organization of the attack and destruction of the Twin Towers. War is not only caused by terrorist attacks, it is mostly caused by land or natural resources. Therefore, the only elements that can cause peace to vanish internationally are war or disagreements between countries. One example of these elements were World War I and II. They were caused by disagreements between European countries. These disagreements can be caused by simple things and as simple as they can be the disagreements end in war and killing hundreds of people. The United States mostly cause for war right now is oil, it is fighting Iraq for oil and other natural resources; like I said, a simple thing. If we want to I am sure that we can make the achievement of peace easier.

If we put a little effort I believe we can all achieve peace or let others have peace. Another thing that can help us as a society to create peace for others is teach our children to be tolerant towards other people’s opinions and to not discriminate others. If we can educate the children to be open minded I think peace will be easier to get locally. Peace is a state of well-being very difficult to find or achieve but it can only be impossible if we think it is. If we think peace is something we can find eventually we will find it, it is all in what you believe.

stand up

The video stand up is about a gay couple that is being bullied and making fun of by four guys. I liked the message of the video of standing up for your friends, it does not matter the sexual orientation they have. I have some homosexual friends and I see them as any couple, they respect and love each other. I think everyone should think the same way about homosexual couples, respect them and accept them as they are. I hope that this video will help people to change their mind towards gay couples.

What is happening in Libya?

There are a lot of violent things currently happening in Libya. Qaddafi’s regimen has lasted about 40 years. Rebels or as they called themselves the “Rebellion” are trying to defend their cities from Qaddafi’s soldiers. Qaddafi’s soldiers are trying to cause fear by shooting anything or anyone in their way, even Qaddafi stated that he would destroy anyone who opposes him. The UN is trying to make a No-Fly zone inside Libya where citizens can be safe of any attack that Qaddafi might try to use against the Rebellion. There have been many intents to overthrow Qaddafi but all of them failed to do so. Libyans are living in fear because Qaddafi’s regimen is causing a civil war.

Re: The Coalition for Adolescent Girls

Girls can change the world if they are educated. In countries like India, Somalia, Pakistan, Niger, and Swaziland, girls don’t get a proper education. When girls are educated they get options and with options come opportunities to create a better future for her and her family. In those countries is common that girls younger than 19 years old get in an arranged marriage. According to studies of the organization Girls Discovered, girls are more likely to improve their lives and society if they get 7 years of education. There are various organizations that specialize in education for girls. In countries like India, girls need to be counted as important members of society; they can change the expectations that they have of themselves, and with that change they will try harder to be the best they can be. The Coalition for Adolescent Girls is one of the organizations that give education to girls all around the world from low income to help girls be important members in their society.

The Coalition for Adolescent Girls is an organization founded by the United Nations Foundation and The Nike Foundation in 1995. Their major office is on 1800 Massachusetts Avenue N.W. suite 400, Washington D.C. They choose only girls because they believe that girls can change the world. When girls are in groups of only girls they can express how they feel without worrying what others will say of her. This organization has over 30 leading joined organizations; one of them is Girls Discovered. Girls Discovered is an organization on charge of making research to see what girls need to be helped in. This organization had researched various countries. In India 50% of girls (10-18years old) are underweight while males are not. In Pakistan only 3% of girls from 15-29 years old understand and try to prevent HIV. In Niger 80% of young women from 20-29 years old have no education. In Swaziland 22.6% of girls form 15-24 years old are HIV positive. With education girls tend to marry a few years later than they would if they were not educated, and have less and healthier children.  These organizations specialize only on helping girls because they believe that girls put a lot more effort on changing their family’s lives and their own.

The Coalition for Adolescent Girls as well as other organizations like Seeds of Peace, works on helping girls become better leaders. The Coalition for Adolescent Girls, not only literates girls, but educates them to live a better and healthy life. They pick girls around the world and bring them together in the summer, to teach them how to read or write, and to get them together to eliminate any racist problems. All these girls are in need because in their country, most of them, they are not worthy of spending income to educate them. The way they get their money to help those girls is by donations of various organizations as well as everyone that wants to help the girls. In the home webpage of Girls Discovered, there are histories of girls and what they need to be helped in.

Building peace

The film “Building Peace” is about Greg Mortenson and the institute that he built in northern Pakistan and Afghanistan. This institute creates an opportunity for girls and boys to eliminate ignorance. I think that what he did is very important for these communities because he is helping them get educated but he is not changing their ways. What the film made me think is that we give for granted every opportunity and education that this country gives us. We don’t really know what is like to be always in war. He is changing the lives of a lot of people for the best. I think we can all change the life of someone; we just need the chance to do it.

Peace

When I think of peace I think of an activity that will help me to feel comfortable about myself, my family, and my life. That activity can be anything, from eating chocolate to listen to the rain. What I like to do the most to get my mind clear is to cook or bake.  I think that everyone should take the time to really enjoy what they like the most.  Peace is something that we are all looking for, we look for peace in different places but we all want that feeling of comfort and happiness. Peace can also mean the end of war and violence between countries.  I think everyone should look and find for what gives them peace and embrace it. We should have a place where we can rest of all the problems we had during the day.
